ALS Action Day

Fighting against any serious illness is hard, but dealing with a terminal disease is a different story altogether. It’s a battle where no amount of will power can help save your life. There is no cure, no chance to win. It’s that simple.

Today we continuously lose people to ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. It’s an incurable hereditary neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord leaving those affected 3-5 years to live after diagnosis. Most people knew nothing about ALS until the Ice Bucket Challenge movement spread like wildfire in summer 2014. Sadly, we were made aware of this disease much sooner with devastating news: a member of our Hitfar family was diagnosed with ALS. By the end of 2015 we found ourselves in a situation where Eric Anderson, one of the longest Hitfar employees, was no longer a part of our team and there was nothing we could do about it.

Eric Anderson

This goes against who we are as people and as a company. Losing is not in our veins. We want to fight, if not for Eric then for his children’s future. We want to fight for millions of other people around the world who may be affected by ALS. This year we declare a war against ALS. Today we start our first ever ALS Action Day.

From now on, every year Hitfar will set aside a day to raise money to help fund research into finding a cure. On this day, Hitfar will donate $1 for each item purchased towards a fund that will be split evenly between the ALS Society of Canada and Eric’s family. This year, it’s April 28th.

Our goal is to raise a combined total of $25,000 by the end of Thursday, April 28th, 2016.

Today we start our battle. Join us.

This is how:

  1. You can support the Anderson family by donating money on their page.
  2. You can contribute to the ALS Canada fund here.
  3. You can spread the word. Share this post with your friends, colleagues and family members. Help Hitfar Kick ALS to the Curb!

Thank You.
