The new big screen phones present a problem for case designers.
Their primary challenge has always been between bulk and protection, but recently that balance has shifted. The introduction of large screen smartphones means the need for protection hasn’t changed, but the requirement for slimmer cases has. People want the security, but they no longer have room for extra bulk in their pockets and handbags. The winning smartphone case is going to be one that meets rugged standards, while sporting a sleek profile.
Well that case is here in the form of Evutec’s latest smartphone case, the Karbon Snap Impact (SI). In a classic case of new meets old, the Karbon SI case consists of a woven Kevlar shell lined and trimmed with an ultra-slim layer of TPU rubber. The case leverages the legendary strength of Kevlar, adds a thin layer of TPU, and ends up a mere 1.5 mm thick. That, and it just passed Military Rugged Standards (Mil 810G)* based drop testing. The future is here.
Evutec hits all the proper design points with the Karbon SI. Buttons are covered perfectly and remain responsive through the case, while the case trim sits just barely above the surface of the screen, allowing it to be placed face down without the screen touching. Ports holes are shaped to accommodate a variety of chargers and headphone plugs, and each Karbon SI case is treated with with Evutec’s patented Evutouch treatment, giving it a smooth, velvety texture that is easy to grasp firmly.
Evutec’s use of Kevlar in these cases is a game changer. It’s strength and lightness mean real protection at a fraction of the bulk and weight of other cases.
Military standard drop protection at a mere 1.5 mm thickness. Challenge met.
